Saturday, July 30 (day 31/365)

At any given time, Phoebe has a few toys that are her favorites.  Of course all actual baby toys are trumped by both cat food and plastic bags, but she does enjoy the occasional toy as well.  Right now her two favorites are a Minnie Mouse shape book from Grandma and Grandpa Gottlieb's friend Dee (thank you!) and a little blue and red ball with a rattle in it.  Phoebe will fixate on one of these two toys and take it with her everywhere.  It is actually pretty funny to watch her try to crawl with a toy in one hand.  She ends up doing a combination army crawl/regular crawl.  Under no circumstances should you try to separate Phoebe from one of her favorite toys.  The other night I made the mistake of taking away the Minnie book so I could put Phoebe in the bathtub.  The meltdown that ensued was epic.  Here is a video of Phoebe with her book:

One of the towns near us is the official Garlic Capital of the WORLD.  As such, every year they have a garlic festival.  Jeremy and I were pretty excited to hear about Garlicfest and we've wanted to go since we moved here.  We finally made the trip this year, and I have to say it was a pretty big let down.  It was kind of like a combination between a county fair and a garlic-themed renaissance fair but without the fun parts of either.  Since the Garlic Capital is inland about half an hour, it was hot too!  The high was 86 - yikes!  We sure have become spoiled by the great Monterey weather - it was so nice to watch the thermostat in the car drop on the way home.

Phoebe and daddy study the festival map and make a battle plan

Rocking out to the Bon Jovi cover band!

All garlic-ed out and on our way home.
